TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Monte Cummings scored 20 points as Florida
State won a season-high third straight game, beating South Florida
78-74 Wednesday.
Antwuan Dixon added 15 points for Florida State (6-6), which won
at South Florida for the first time since Dec. 16, 1989.
Altron Jackson scored 23 points and added a school-record 10
steals for South Florida (9-3).
The Seminoles had to hold off a late rally to get the win after
Delvon Arrington hit a jumper and Michael Joiner added a 3-pointer
to give them a 73-68 lead with 3:30 to play.
Jackson's basket got South Florida within 76-71 with 14.7
seconds. After Florida State added a free throw, B.B. Waldon hit a
three to make it 77-74 with 6.8 seconds left.
South Florida was unable to foul Cummings until two-tenths of a
second remained. He made one of two.
South Florida overcame an 11-point deficit to take a 35-33
halftime lead.
Reggie Kohn had three 3-pointers, and Jackson had two slams
during a 17-5 run that gave South Florida its first lead at 30-29. |
