STANFORD, Calif. (AP) _ Shaun Fein and Darryl LaBarrie scored 13 points apiece as Georgia Tech beat Idaho State 78-56 in the first round of the Stanford Invitational on Monday night.

Marvin Lewis scored 12 points, and Alvin Jones had nine points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots as the Yellow Jackets advanced to Tuesday night's final against No. 3 Stanford, which beat Sacred Heart 94-52 earlier.

In the first-ever meeting between two schools separated by nearly 2,000 miles, Georgia Tech continued its surprising early-season run with an easy victory.

In a season in which most expected the rebuilding Yellow Jackets to finish at the bottom of the ACC, first-year coach Paul Hewitt has led them to wins over UCLA and Kentucky. Their high-intensity style of play destroyed the Bengals and could be trouble for Stanford.

The game started at midnight EST, but the Yellow Jackets (6-2) didn't look sleepy. They opened the game with a 9-3 run and played a suffocating full-court trap on the Bengals, who returned the favor with their own full-court press.

Georgia Tech set the tone early when Jones swatted Tim Erickson's 3-point attempt into the crowd less than three minutes into the game. The Yellow Jackets led 27-11 midway through the first half and never were seriously threatened thereafter.

D'Marr Suggs scored 17 points for the Bengals (2-5). Georgia Tech held Jordie McTavish, Idaho State's leading scorer, to eight points on 2-of-8 shooting and forced him into six turnovers.

The Bengals, who are coached by longtime Stanford assistant Doug Oliver, had difficulty with Georgia Tech's pressure and shot just 31 percent for the game with Jones defending the middle. Both teams made 18 turnovers.
