BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) _ Keith Friel scored 15 points, all on 3-pointers, to lead Virginia past Virginia Tech 64-48 Friday night. Friel, who went 5-for-7 from behind the arc, hit two shots within two minutes to give Virginia (3-0) its biggest lead, at 60-35, with 7:37 left to play. Virginia Tech (1-2) committed 19 turnovers, which led to 25 points for Virginia. The Cavaliers have won the last four meetings in the series and six of the last seven. This is the first time since the 1975-76 season the game was not played at a neutral site. Virginia took an early lead with an 18-4 run capped by a Donald Hand 3-pointer with 9:05 left in the half. The Hokies had 12 turnovers in the first half. Virginia's Travis Watson added 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Carlos Dixon led the Hokies with 13 points, including nine of the Hokies' first 19 points. Mibindo Dongo added 11 points, while Jon Smith led Virginia Tech in rebounds with 8. Virginia led 38-23 at the half. Virginia Tech went on a 5-0 run at the beginning of the second half to cut into Virginia's lead. The Cavaliers responded with eight unanswered points, putting the score at 50-30.
