RICHMOND, Virginia (Ticker) -- Craig Dawson scored 16 points off the bench to lead 16th-ranked Wake Forest to its ninth straight victory over Richmond, 69-61. Robert O'Kelley added 13 points, including two free throws with 52 seconds to play that gave Wake Forest a 65-61 lead. Josh Howard dunked 30 seconds later to make it a six-point game and O'Kelley followed with two more free throws for the final margin. The Demon Deacons (3-0) were tested in the first half as Richmond jumped to an early 16-4 lead. Wake Forest was able to pull ahead late in the half, grabbing a 34-25 halftime lead. With 1:17 to go, Richmond cut the deficit to 63-61 on a basket by Greg Stevenson, but they got no closer. Stevenson scored 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting, including 3-for-5 from 3-point range. Reggie Brown added 17 points, nailing 5-of-13 3-pointers. The Spiders attempted 33 shots from behind the arc, making 11. The Demon Deacons won their first two games by an average of 43.5 points, crushing Mount St. Mary's, 108-61, before rolling to an 84-44 rout of Air Force in the championship game of the BCA Classic. The Spiders (1-1) have all five starters back from last season's 18-12 team and were picked as the preseason favorite in the Colonial Athletic Association. Wake Forest extended its lead in the series to 30-9.
