RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) _ Anthony Grundy scored 15 of his 22 points in the second half and Ron Kelley added 11 points as North Carolina State beat Pennsylvania 77-64 in the CoSIDA Classic on Friday night.

The Wolfpack held the Quakers in check with an aggressive man-to-man defense and took control of the game with a 7-0 run midway through the second half.

N.C. State (1-0) led 33-28 at halftime, but the Quakers (0-1) opened the second half with three 3-point field goals and a dunk from Ugonna Onyekwe to tie the score at 39-39 with 17:28 to play.

Onyekwe added a short jumper from the right post and a baseline dunk to put the Quakers ahead 43-41 with 14:55 to play.

The Wolfpack retook the lead at 45-43 on a three-point play by Damien Wilkins with 12:56 to play, then, after the teams traded 3s, the Wolfpack scored seven unanswered points, including a 3-pointer from Grundy and a dunk from Kenny Inge, to take a 55-47 lead with 7:48 to play.

Penn never got closer than four points the rest of the way. The Wolfpack lead reached double figures in the final minutes.

Neither team shot the ball well in the first half. The Quakers shot only 39 percent, hitting 11 of 28 shots. The Wolfpack was 10-of-28 for 36 percent.

Pennsylvania's outside shooting staked the Quakers to an early 11-5 edge. Penn hit three of its first five 3-point tries, with Lamar Plummer hitting two from long range in the first 4:31.

N.C. State's defense then clamped down, forcing the Quakers to miss nine of their next 10 shots.

State's offense sparked to life with 3s from Grundy and Archie Miller and a reverse layup from Wilkins as the Wolfpack went on a 17-4 run to go up 22-15 with 8:02 left in the half.

Penn answered with a 7-0 run, ending with a 3-pointer from David Klatsky to tie the score at 22-22 with 5:40 remaining.
